Community Leaders Cut Ribbon for New Kids Vision for Life Central Texas Mobile Vision Clinic
Representatives from Austin Community Foundation, Essilor Vision Foundation and Seton Healthcare Family along with leaders from St. David's Foundation, Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and the Lola Wright Foundation cut the ribbon recently for the new Kids Vision for Life Central Texas mobile clinic.
The mobile clinic provides vision services to low-income children at schools and community events across Central Texas. Up to 75% of students who fail their vision screening at school do not report having had a follow-up exam by an optometrist by the end of the school year. Yet, 85% of learning occurs through vision and hearing.
Kids Vision for Life Central Texas is a collaborative program of the Austin Community Foundation, Essilor Vision Foundation and the Seton Healthcare Family to bring eye exams and prescription glasses to area school children at no cost to their families.
Kids Vision for Life Central Texas depends on volunteers to help guide students through the process of receiving an exam and choosing glasses. Sign up to volunteer!
Kids Vision for Life Central Texas operates thanks to the generosity of donors who want to make sure every child can see well and succeed in school. Donate now!

Study Reports $26 Billion to Transfer between Generations in Austin During Next Decade
The Austin region will see $26 billion pass from one generation to the next during the next ten years according to a new study. This unprecedented transfer of wealth creates a unique opportunity for individuals to make a profound impact in our community by including one or more favorite local charities in their estate plans. For local nonprofits, the significant transfer of assets between generations offers the opportunity to build endowments to create sustainable funding and address a wide range of community needs.
Watch a quick video about the Transfer of Wealth opportunity and the Austin Giving Pledge.
AUSTIN GIVING PLEDGE
The Transfer of Wealth study provides a picture of the incredible opportunity for Austin nonprofit organizations. But taking advantage of it is up to individuals. Here are three things you can do to get started:
1. Think about what you love about Austin and decide which local charities or causes you are passionate about.
2. Review your estate plan (which may include your will, trust and/or beneficiaries of your life insurance or retirement account).
3. Commit to give at least 5% to the local causes that matter to you and join the Austin Giving Pledge. Just click here, print out the card and mail it to Austin Community Foundation. We'll add your name to the Austin Giving Honor Roll.
The Austin Giving Pledge recognizes people who have donated or plan to donate at least 5% of their assets to local charities. Adding your name inspires other to do the same.
Turning Assets into Endowments
Over the next 50 years, the Transfer of Wealth opportunity increases to $693 billion in Austin.
- If 5% of that were donated to local charities, $34.7 billion would benefit the community.
- If instead that amount was invested in an endowment, that would create $1.7 billion in sustainable annual resources. Forever.
How can you multiply generosity?
Since 1977, Austin Community Foundation has helped caring people give more than $200 million in grants to make Austin the best place to live for everyone. We help people find creative and effective ways to give to the special causes dear to their hearts—or respond to our growing community’s changing needs.
We are your Austin Community Foundation, where community resources meet community needs.
Together, we are generosity multiplied.
